Home Fire Drill Poster Artists Win Lunch With Firefighters

HFD_Poster_Winners_FirehouseLunch_2015Ryan Roberts and Jade Ingram, the winners of the 2015 Prevention 1st Home Fire Drill Poster Contest, each received a very special thank-you: lunch with local firefighters.

Fourth-grader Ryan Roberts won first place in his age group for his colorful poster with the simple but life-saving message: “Get Out, Stay Out.” The firefighters at the Ridgeway and Dewey Firehouse thanked Ryan for his great work by giving lunch to him and some friends from his school, Rochester City School #41. Thanks to Capt. James Hartman, FF Sam Green and all the firefighters who celebrated with Ryan.

JadeandFriendsJade Ingram and her friends received her celebration lunch at Truck 4. Thanks to RFD Deputy Chief Tom Szatko, Lt. Witkowski, FF Flagler-Mitchell and the rest of the firefighters at Truck 4 for their hospitality. Jade is a 2nd grader at School #1 whose poster reminds everyone to “Always Check Your Smoke Alarm!”

The students’ posters were displayed along hundreds of others throughout the Rochester area during this Spring’s Daylight Saving Time change. Twice a year Prevention 1st reminds the community to “Change Your Clock, Test Your Alarms, Practice Your Home Fire Drill—Alarms Go Off, You Get Out.” The community-wide Home Fire Drill campaign features posters created by artists from the Rochester City School District, the Arc of Monroe and CDS Monarch.

2015_JudgesOur thanks to this year’s Poster Contest judges: Senator Joseph Robach; Rochester Fire Marshal Tom Szatko; RCSD Superintendent Bolgen Vargas; and Marlene Hamann-Whitmore of the Memorial Art Gallery.
